For September we did spend a little more than I wanted and saved less for a fun trip to DC. My wife’s department at work was invited to the DC United soccer game and lunch out. See my face painting below. We tried to keep spending low throughout the month knowing that we would spend a lot on the trip and to save for our future vacations.
The Trip
We were able to use Hilton points to stay at the Conrad DC a few blocks from the White House. This incredible hotel has large rooms, great service and we were able to use our Hilton Diamond Status to receive a $50 Food & Beverage Credit each night.
We made our way down the first evening to the Lincoln Memorial with scootering around the National mall to the Washington monument.
On game day we had lunch at the Mission Mexican restaurant at the Navy Yard, where I was able to get my face painted for the game and then a quick walk to the stadium. Near the hotel is Rumi’s Kitchen a great Persian restaurant and roam around the city with great weather.
The Budget
During the month we had some large unexpected expenses, a visit to the vet for our puppy Emmie set us back around $300 for an eye infection. The largest part of our budget was spent on travel this month. Gas was expensive to and from DC along with food around the city. We did splurge on Gelato each night at Dolcezza, they have custom flavors that rotate each day. We also put money away for our two upcoming trips. A New Years trip to Disney and our Disney Cruise in April.
Groceries are still very expensive eating up a large portion of our budget and of course the dining out category below was large due to spending with our trip.
